herbal tea and stitching

Sunny days seem to be, finally, on their way here. We have had some cold wintry swims over the past couple of weeks with the odd day where the wind was so wild we couldn’t get into the sea at all. Very unusual for May in Cornwall but the mornings are starting to feel warmer and the winds have dropped so fingers crossed.

All the bad weather means I have had quite a lot of time to play on my new ipad using procreate. I have put digital drawing off for a very long time only to find that it is so much fun. It’s great for pattern design as I can move elements around and change the colours quickly rather than having to stitch different versions in different colourways.

The design I am working on at the moment is very much inspired by tea. I love a warming coffee on wintry mornings but once the weather shifts and it starts to feel summery the herbal teas come back out. At the moment I can’t stop drinking Tarn and Moon’s teas. I have loved every tea we have had from them but especially the kuku mint tea. (I am not being sponsored by them! I just love their tea).

So this pattern will be for the tea drinkers out there. It’s also inspired by a cotton blouse that I vaguely remember from childhood with embroidery around the neck. I am trying to limit the number of colours in this pattern as I usually use a lot of tones of each colour so I have gone for some folk inspired colours that are a little bolder but we will have to see if extras creep in as I carry on stitching.

I have played around a little with wiggly backstitch for the hair to create a sort of pre raphaelite hairstyle. I’m still thinking about that and might change it once everything else is stitched up.

I have also got some screen printing done and so there are lavender girl kits available once again. This may be the last show for some of the fabrics as they are not available any more so some of the next girls will have different dresses.

The lavender girl kits are available here

I’m also busy planning for Christmas with the help of Jenny Pace’s Christmas planning group! This year I’m excited to be organized in advance so there will be plenty of kits and winter designs for those who like to start their Christmas stitching in August! No doubt my own family Christmas preparations will be just as last minute as ever! But there’s fun in that too.

I hope you have a lovely weekend with some sunshine if it’s summer or some cosy winter stitching if not. I am hoping that a little bit of beach stitching might be in order this weekend so fingers crossed
