Stitching a princess
Spring just keeps trying to arrive here in Cornwall although the sea isn’t feeling any warmer yet. I think I may have to wait until May for a warmer swim. Nonetheless a lovely warm sunlight is glowing on my work table more often than not these days.
Last week, after quite a lot of requests, I ordered princess panels for stitching. I have stitched a sample up this week and I’m really pleased with the results. The panels are nice and simple to stitch, I think they would be lovely to stitch with a child. There are some french knots but you could fill the flower centres with satin stitch if it’s a little easier and swap the french knots on the dress for seed stitches. I think this is perfect for a beginner.
I used a chain stitch for her hair but you could easily use back stitch or split stitch, they would be just as lovely. There is lots of back stitch and straight stitches.
Her dress is decorated with little stars that are simple to stitch but very effective. Her underskirt has little ecru petals on it.
My girl is twenty now, so maybe a little too old for a princess (or maybe you are never too old for a princess) but it is going up on her wall while she is away at university and I am stealing a little of her space for stitching next to her sunny window.
so this week all the pictures are princesses! Apart from the picture I snuck in of my bullet journal with all my pencil crayon colours finally marked in with their names so I don’t order colours that I already have. I saw this idea scrolling through instagram on @littlehannahshop and it was a very soothing activity on a particularly stressful day. I thoroughly recommend it if you are looking for something meditative to do and your embroidery threads are already neatly organized! The lovely washi tape is from miso paper, a heavenly shop for any washi, sticker or stationery fans out there.
Next week I am going back to my Persephone to change her skirt completely and continue with the design. I am also going into my sketchbook as I have some ideas for kits that I would like to try out.
If you would like to stitch a princess the pattern and the printed panel are available in my Etsy shop.
I hope you have a lovely weekend and Happy Mother’s day to all the UK mothers. Hopefully it will be lovely despite all the restrictions that are still in place here.
And may the sunshine continue.
