green colourway for christmas tree

Hello lovely stitchers,

I have stitched up the Christmas tree in a more traditional colour palette of greens, red and gold and as promised this is the colour palette.

I used DMC stranded cotton and a DMC glitter thread

I used two greens, a darker one 3051 and a lighter one 3022. I’ve tried to alternate them so there isn’t too much of one colour together.

I also used two reds which are quite close in colour. I like the subtle difference but you may prefer to stick with one. The darker is 3802 and the lighter is 3726

Her hair and the trunk are two browns mixed together. In her hair there are alternate rows of colour but for the tree trunk I used one strand of each and split stitch.

The browns I used were 09 and 07

Finally I have two golds. One is a non glitter thread 834 and the other is E677, the glittery one.

A quick note about glitter threads. The DMC is not the easiest thread to work with but if you keep the thread short and work slowly it gives a really nice effect.

A few of my stitchers have recommended au ver a soie glitter threads because they are much easier to work with. Unfortunately I have had trouble getting hold of the gold that I wanted so I haven’t tried them yet but if you see these threads they could be worth a try.

For the tree I picked a particular colour for a particular stitch and then kept to it throughout the tree. I kept the glitter thread for the more simple stitches.

This is the complete list of threads

3051 dark green 3022 lighter green

3802 dark red 3726 lighter red

09 dark brown 07 light brown

834 gold E677 glitter gold
